government. Liberal is the new label we've given to the Founders' Enlightenment era values. So no, David Brooks can't just declare the end of the liberal world just because populism if the resistance to austerity economics and global pressure to take over this country's government.

Liberals and populists can easily coexist. There need not even be rebutting. When they focus on their mutual goals they usually don't divide on differences. imo
