Democratic Primaries

(146,307 posts)That's to be expected, I suppose. I'm a mainstream Democrat, because it has been such Democrats who have managed to win office more often that those who hold views further to the left. While I am a philosophical socialist, I've not found that my personal philosophy leads to success at the polling place. So, since I believe that this country does better when Democrats are in power, I work to elect Democrats everywhere. What that means is that in some places, Democrats who lean more toward the center are the only ones who can get elected.
Nationally, too, it has been more moderate Democrats who have managed to get elected as our Presidents. That is frustrating, of course, to people who decry any compromises in legislation, etc. They forget that nothing happens in this country without compromise. That's because we are not a unified nation, politically.
People who are frustrated tend to strike out at anyone who doesn't see things their way. There's no getting around that, so taking certain positions on DU, which tends to lean left, ends up with the person taking the moderate position getting attacked sometimes. I'm used to that. I try to shed such attacks as gracefully as I can.
Note: It is my policy on DU not to alert on any post that is a reply to something I have written. I follow that policy religiously, even when attacked for some reason. I prefer to reply within the thread to such attacks, or simply ignore them.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
