Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: Electoral College Map...we need a centrist candidate to win the rustbelt to stop Trump. [View all]George II
(67,782 posts)...a big majority of Democrats and a majority of "independents".
I've said this a dozen times on this site, if we can't win against opponents that are to the right of our candidates, what's the point of moving FURTHER "left" and running against opponents who would be even further to the right of our candidates?
We have to look at who is getting the votes in certain areas of the country and why, and find candidates that fit that profile. We saw it in our own primaries in the middle of the country last year. We had a number of "centrist" candidates and incumbents who were challenged by "progressives". Almost ALL of the "centrists" won their primaries and eventually won their general elections.
Candidates can have all the best intentions and best policies in the world, but they won't accomplish a damned thing if they don't get elected.
Put another way, do we want candidates that agree with the "progressive" wing 100% of the time who have 10% chance of winning, or do we want candidates that agree with the "progressive" wing 70% of the time and have 70-80% chance of winning?
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
