Democratic Primaries
Showing Original Post only (View all)So, Senator Sanders is dissing Democrats again on MTP? [View all]
Here are the problems with this:
Who puts on the Democratic National Nominating Convention? The Democratic establishment does.
Who are most of the delegates at that convention? Members of the Democratic establishment. As someone who has worked on campaigns and has been a low-ranking Democratic Party elected person, I've seen this first-hand. I've been a delegate at district conventions, and even the state convention once. At each level, it is the most experienced and accomplished Democrats who are elected as delegates. The national convention is the pinnacle of that process. You do not go there, as a rule, unless you have put in your time and hard work for years as a Democratic Party member of leadership.
Who votes in Democratic primaries? Solid Democrats, overwhelmingly. Turnout for primaries is always lower than for general elections. Only those who are dedicated voters who vote whenever they have an opportunity to vote show up, as a rule. Those voters who always vote are the Democratic base. They are, in many ways, part of the Democratic establishment.
The nominee will be a Democrat! Given the above, it's almost certain that the 2020 nominee will be a solid, long-time Democrat. it will not be someone who attacks the Democratic Establishment. Why would they nominate such a person? In the first place, such a person will not win enough delegates to get the nomination. That's what happened in 2016. Second, the delegates at the convention in the majority are part of the Democratic Establishment. They are, above all, Democrats, or they wouldn't be there.
Bad move, Bernie Sanders. Desperation move. It will not work. Almost all of those running in this crowded primary are dedicated Democrats and are part of the Democratic Establishment you are dissing. You are making a mistake. Those who don't care for the current leader, Joe Biden, have many other candidates for whom they can vote.
Good luck, Senator Sanders. Your strategy, though, is going to fail.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
