In reply to the discussion: #BlackLivesMatter but 15 Minutes of Fame Seekers Shouldn't: The Sanders/O'Malley Shoutdown NN15 [View all]Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)Did they petition NN15 to have stage time and were turned down? Did they ask to be added on to the Agenda and were denied? If the answer to these 2 questions are "no" then there is no justification for how they handled this issue -- a HUGE issue that desperately needs to be addressed. But there is a right way and a wrong way and shouting down INVITED speakers (are we forgetting about the "invited" part?) is the wrong way. Especially since the speakers AGREE with what the disruptors were saying. But those who were hearing O'Malley and Sanders for the first time wouldn't know that because they were shouted down so no one could hear.
I'm sorry but I can't see how anyone can justify several people standing there screaming at one person and think that is effective. It makes you, and by extension, your Movement, radioactive, at least in terms of getting a hearing by the MSM. Dr. King would have never sanctioned that type of behavior. He could disagree while being respectful. These guys need to learn that or forever be relegated to fringe.
