27. I am reminded of Nixon's unity pledge.

At the start of his presidency, Nixon promised to bring the nation together. Several years later, as he publicly resigned the presidency, my husband and I listened to him with my sister and her husband. The four of us spanned the political spectrum, from socialist to conservative Republican. It suddenly hit me that he had, at least, kept that promise, as all four of us sat there swearing fluently at the TV screen.
