In reply to the discussion: BERNIE SUPPORTERS MAJOR ALERT -- PUERTO RICO THEFT OF VOTES NOW [View all]justiceischeap
(14,040 posts)those voters are magically ONLY Bernie voters? How does she not loose out in this too? Do you think all people that get tired of waiting at the polls are all Bernie supporters? What does that do to the narrative that there is an enthusiasm gap for Hillary if only Sanders supporters get tired of waiting. I also read in GD : P a lot that Hillary only has the older voters... older voters less likely to stand on line for hours to vote. So, really, Clinton should be the one screaming about this, not Sanders because it makes absolutely no sense that Bernie's overly enthusiastic supporters wouldn't wait on line to cast their vote for him.
Or you know, you could go with the simpler answer: Puerto Rico is broke. They couldn't find the money (or people) to run those additional polling places they shut down so they have as many polling places open as they can afford and/or man.
Finally, it's not Clinton, the DNC's or even Bernie's fault that people don't want to wait to vote. That's on the person making the decision, even in the face of hardship, that it just isn't worth the wait. In the United States, I've waited on line for up to 5 hours to cast my vote for Gore because my precinct at the time wasn't prepared for the numbers of people coming to vote at their usually very inactive polling place. I waited, because I wanted to make sure Gore got my vote but I could have just as easily walked across the street and gone home. Same thing in 2008 happened in Florida and other places I can't recall. We need to make changes to our voting system to make things easier, make it a federal law to allow early voting in all states, and I think voting my mail is the way of the future. No lines, can vote at your leisure, etc. However, politicians in general do not want voting made easier (otherwise election day would be a national holiday) because if too many people participated, some of said politicians would lose their comfy jobs if it were easier to vote.
