3. Gary Wills was on a book talk on C-SPAN this weekend re his new book

concerning the Catholic Church and Pope Francis. During the question period, the question above was posed - " Why do more non-Catholics like the Pope than Catholics do." Wills replied, "Because he is like Jesus."

Describing himself as a former conservative turned liberal, Wills presented a most interesting discussion of past and current Catholic thought, ranging from Augustine to Aquinas to recent popes John Paul II and Benedict to Bergolio's Argentinian/Jesuit history to Francis I today.

In addition to the column cited above, I would recommend finding this broadcast on the C-SPAN site and getting the full broadcast of an enlightening discussion by Gary Wills.

You may not agree with his every thought, but will likely find it interesting and thought-provoking.
