(22,336 posts)I spend a huge amount of time among white liberals IRL, and they are all major fans of West. I also know African Americans IRL, and they seem to mainly be where most of you are - his heavy (and unfair) criticism of Pres. Obama was too over-the-top, and so they aren't confident in him.
I am very confused by this difference. I even know a white liberal whose employment is doing antiracism work who is a fan of Cornel West, yet I at least haven't heard any African Americans IRL say anything positive about him. Either silence or negatie comments.
There's a book that's currently very popular among white liberals called Black Prophetic Fire. I volunteer at a food pantry, and we've been going through a ton of antiracism training, and this book is under heavy discussion among the white liberals there who have been doing the antiracism training.
I just don't know what to make of it. (I haven't read the book either, but I might.)
