and loved. It never turned out well. They go 'wild'. Someone gets bitten, a house gets trashed and the animal goes back outside. The problem is now they have no fear and return and do more outrage.

Making pets of wild animals is not good. Our culture needs to realize: animals are life not lifestyle accessories.
