3. Oh, olddots, can I relate! Year 50+ here. Yes , it's my "child."

My experience is that it doesn't get better.

When "child" was small, child didn't have enough knowledge or savvy or means to avoid conforming to conventional living.
When schooling was finished, the structure of work and job kept a lot under control.

Now with a diagnosis and disability, little to no structure in adult "child's" life is disabling in and of itself.

Meanwhile, I/parent grows older and, unfortunately, less patient and tolerant.

You're correct - it ain't easy.
