Franklin Graham calls on Pete Buttigieg to repent for the 'sin' of being gay [View all]

Democrat Pete Buttigieg, who hopes to become the first openly gay president in American history, was targeted on Twitter this week by Franklin Graham in comments that called being gay a "sin, something to be repentant of, not something to be flaunted, praised or politicized."

Graham, the son of legendary preacher Billy Graham, is known as an evangelist, social conservative activist and supporter of President Donald Trump. Buttigieg — the mayor of South Bend, Indiana — is a practicing Christian who says there is no reason his sexuality and faith have to be mutually exclusive.

Graham's comments came in response to a CNN report about Buttigieg remarking that "God doesn't have a political party."

"But God does have commandments, laws & standards," Graham tweeted.
