Playing dirty is not illegal, but it is unethical.
If Sanders was to be honest about how he "fought for them" he would have to admit that he ignored the warnings of top veterans groups who cautioned that without reform that cleaned up the VA, increasing funding for veterans programs would not help the veterans who needed it. It would be lost in the many holes and cracks within the system. Sanders scored a political victory, along with McCain, but did not help veterans who continue to suffer after multi-billion dollar shortfalls.
