The more I have thought about this idea overnight, the more I like it. Here it is. The theme for our May Contest is Sacred/Inspirational Places/Spaces. I offer it in honor and memory of those who have been victims of hate crimes in their houses of worship, or for the loss of those structures due to arson, bombing, accidental fire, or acts of nature. This is not about religion, but about the freedom to choose among the diverse ways we connect our souls to our families, our communities, our past and our yearning for meaning in life.
This leaves plenty of room for your subject photograph. It could be of the Grand Canyon or your favorite outdoor spot for meditation. It could be a small one room chapel in the country or Notre Dame. It could be a church, a cathedral, a mosque, a synagogue, a shrine or a temple. It could be Stonehenge or the Pyramids or Machu Picchu or the statues on Easter Island. If you choose a structure, it could be an interior or exterior view.
Let's aim for diversity. Let's aim to fill this contest with 30 photos. Go through your archives or take your camera out and shoot something new. Take us on a trip around the country--and maybe even the world--and connect us one to each other.
I will open Submissions on May 8th and hold them open until May 19th unless we fill 30 spots prior to the 19th. Preliminaries will run for 3 days and Finals will run for 3 days.
