I remember hearing this as a young teen, and discussing the metaphors in songs. Like this one - did it refer to lsd experience? Was it a variation on do unto others/take a walk in another's shoes? It was not a time for simple readings and plain meanings. This was different, and started many on paths of questioning. While still 'just kids'.
