The Hallelujah Chorus and forgetting tradition [View all]

I have witnessed several times during services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day that I am the only one who has jumped to my feet upon the first strains of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus". I thought this was universally known and understood. And I am eyed with curiosity by the other parishioners as I stand. Maybe two or three join me, but the majority remain seated.

I know, I know, King George III stood and everyone followed suit. But this is tradition, not about bowing to nobility.
