Great writer, so-so musician.
I've decided I like the Beatles's "Twist and Shout" more than the Isleys's, and Guns and Roses's "Sympathy For the Devil" more than the Stones's. Maybe ELO's "Roll Over Beethoven" more than Chuck Berry's, although they are really not comparable versions.
I prefer Carl Perkin's "Blue Suede Shoes" over Big Mama Thornton's.
There are others, but these occur off the top of my head.
