5. Ms. Lek runs an elephant rescue in Thailand

These were trained elephants used for the tourist trade in the lowlands. The pandemic has killed off the tourist trade and the keepers were unable to feed them properly, so Ms. Lek and some of the owners are going to highland villages where they can be used for other work and where food is plentiful.

BBC had a nice film of some of the other people taking their elephants home. Sadly, not all of them are being well treated, some are chained and starving, waiting for tourists to show up, but Ms. Lek has been collecting funds to rescue them, too. Owners aren't trying to be cruel, everybody's hungry these days without the tourist trade.

You bet these big critters love her. It's returned.
