(4,604 posts)After nearly a decade of not working I recently started again, waiting tables at a very casual place. It's fun, my coworkers and guests are great, we have a huge outdoor seating area, and we get really, really busy some nights. Weekend days, too.
Anyhoo, as I've gotten my server groove back, one of my old pet peeves has returned: people who order tap water and don't drink it. Even worse, when one person orders water for the whole table of 10 and no one (but the person who ordered) drinks any of it because they all order tea or soda. Ugh.
It may not seem like a big deal and, yes, my job is to bring people stuff, but hauling full, wasted (cough FREE cough) drinks back and forth annoys the hell out of me. It's an extra trip to bring all the waters that you know only one or two people will drink, if you are lucky, and then it makes bussing the table a pita because there are like 1000 cups on the table that cannot be stacked because they are extra full after the ice melted from sitting there, untouched, while everyone ate their meal. That one little thing can really slow you down when you are super busy. And it's wasteful.
