2. One part of the historical record is clear

Crystallized cane sugar was introduced into Europe from the New World in quantities that meant that non aristocrats could suddenly afford it at celebratory feasts like Christmas and the mid summer revels. Dental health plummeted, skeletons exhumed for study showing massive caries and tooth loss, plus signs of dental abscesses that might have been the cause of death. It got even worse when the temperance movement forced a shift from weak ale to tea and coffee, drinks that required sugar for most people.

The problem now is that people just don't have the time to make their own food without the stuff and processed food is getting worse all the time. I keep losing convenience foods because they've started to taste like salty candy.

I can't demonize sugar to the extent this video does, but it's clear it does a number on your teeth and some things, like sugared sodas, seem to be delivery systems for as much sugar as they can possibly cram into them without turning them into pancake syrup. I wish they'd leave it out of most savory foods.
