If he thinks Democrats are "opponents" that is one of the big problems in Congress. The whole group is supposed to work for the greater good of Americans. I am sure Dems would be behind the Repubs if and when they ever come up with a good idea. It has been a long time coming.

For those not old enough to remember, bipartisanship really used to be a thing. I am always beating the dead horse of Reagan, but the Repubs went way Right during his administration, found a home and stayed there. The Christian Right carries a lot of blame in that too.

Example; The Clean Water Act of 1972. With a Dem majority in both houses the Bill passed, along with 2/3 of Repubs voting for it. Nixon vetoed it, but the House and Senate both voted to override the veto, by a clear margin. There were a large number of Repubs that abstained, but the majority that cast a vote were for the Bill. Imagine that happening in the last 30 years, getting Republicans to vote yes to an Environmental Bill their President vetoed.
