We Have Two Visions of the Future, and Both Are Wrong

2. Who has interest in a calm public? Status quo pols, employers, authoritarians,

Status quo politicians want to keep things stable so they keep their jobs. "What wealth & income inequality?", "There is no systemic racism".

Employers like docile drones who are productive.

Authoritarians show up on both lists. The difference is those out of power want unrest so they can get power but those in power deploy massive police and government intervention to suppress dissent and deviation and maintain privilege. Those in power want their status quo to continue.

A lot of people, weighted more toward age, want to be comfortable and undisturbed in their routines and nests. Which is very understandable and worthy of due attention.
