(1,695 posts)32. I had a diverse group growing up & in the Army.
Not so much now. It's just a matter of where I live. Pretty rural and not many minorities around. Small enough that if someone said "Which Keith?" They'd respond "Keith, you know, the black one." Most would know. That's because he's one of the few black men to live around here. And there are just waaaay to many white dudes named Keith here.

It's hard for people to make friends if there is racial tension in the larger society.
