61. I'm assisting a Republican council member in Orange County, CA

Aug 2013

Our city has been targeted by the same people who advise the Walker Adm. of Wisconsin and his approach to governance. Meaning firing public employees and bad mouthing Republicans who disagree with their radical movement. There is no welcome for even rational Republicans in the party. Democrats are practically dismissed as being pathetic because we object to taking away what we've had all this time - public workers and good pensions. They also intend to buy up the city for private development. Our nonpartisan group has no financial power or high profile backing. We're fighting this machine on our own.

Turns out that uneducated goons and thugs are handling their PR campaign. They call their own Republican a liar, and worse. She is standing strong and fighting them and I'm trying to help. Democrats couldn't get on to the council this past election. Up until 2008 the only Democrat on the council was married to a firefighter and had the support of the public workers, who the GOP is successfuly trying to get rid of.

It's a horrible situation which some Republican residents disapprove of, but with their PR and given the backing of the OC GOP and probably the Koch Bros, they will likely succeed. We are trying to fight the barrage of lies and persistent efforts to steal our city out from under us. Their aim is reaching angry Republican voters who've come to HATE Democrats and democratic ideals and convincing them to trust them with their city. Meaning - Don't trust Democrats with anything.
