Yes, it is. She's an older woman who grew up in the segregated South. Were her comments horrendous? No doubt. I don't believe they were malicious. She strikes me as being a very clueless, apolitical woman who loves food. Speaking of her food -- yes, it's high in fat, sugar and butter. That's her shtick. She's hardly the only one. I have a cookie recipe from Barefoot Contessa that contains 3 sticks of butter. You know what? They're fucking awesome. Everyone I make it for LOVES them. Not all chefs on these cooking programs are vegans making gluten-free pasta with tofu and flaxseed (thank God.)
