is that Vindman and his family left behind a totalitarian regime to live in a country that they believed was founded on honorable principles.

We heard him tell his father that he would be all right, even though he was speaking truth about the people in power. I don't remember if he specifically said, "This is America." as an affirmation that this country wouldn't seek to punish him for doing his duty and speaking the truth even if it were inconvenient to those in authority.

There is still a part of me that still believes the unspoken promise that Vindman encapsulated when he said, "This is America." Unfortunately, the words, "This is America." also highlight the broken promise to Black Americans when used in Childish Gambino's music video.

If slavery is America's "Original Sin", then Trump is America's secondary flare-up of some venereal disease.
