Liberty's Falwell says he's target of 'attempted coup'

19. I see massive irony and hypocrisy in these events.

In my youth in the Baptist church in the 50s and 60s, the tenants we were taught were humility, a life lived in modesty with excess given to charity, and honesty - among others. The pastors of our churches lived very modestly and in fact had to be "pounded" once or twice a year with donated food and supplies from church folk just to survive.

If these mega-church preachers such as Bakker, Falwell, Roberts, Graham, et al had lived by those standards....

* neither they nor their churches would have become wealthy (therefore not tempted by corruption),
* we would not have heard of them if we didn't live close by because they could not have built massive media organizations,
* Falwell and others would not be facing widespread public scrutiny or possible court action, and
* they might still be just everyday preachers driving a Buick and doing nothing but sermons, hospital visits, funerals and weddings.

Just a late thought.......
