(10,503 posts)First, the GOP was determined to steel that election. And the MSM was complicit once they got their narrative going. Ailes and Fox made it easier. But were they really going to be stopped? They had the Florida legislature and the Supreme Court working for them.
Now let's suppose that we did elect Al Gore in 2000. Wasn't there always going to be the next Republican act of evil? The next diabolical scheme? Look at what they did after Benghazi. So maybe it would have come later. But isn't it equally accurate to say that it could have come earlier? Maybe they could have done something to illegitimately win in 1996.
Put it like this: If Wes Clark had been the Democratic nominee in 2004 rather than John Kerry, is there any doubt that we would still have had some incarnation of the Swift Boat Veterans?
