Clinton, Sanders to meet for Brooklyn debate

at the end of March.

When exactly did she accept that date?

The first mention I saw was After the Sanders campaign published a letter on March 27 trying to get the Clinton campaign to lock in a date for the April debate.

"He suggested the April 14th date way back, but as soon as Hillary agreed with him... sorry, no deal, previous engagement!"

Did the Clinton campaign expect the Sanders campaign to hold that date open for months while trying to schedule other events?

DES MOINES, Iowa – Bernie Sanders’ campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, issued the following statement Saturday on negotiations over additional debates:

“After refusing for months to participate in more debates, Secretary Clinton requested that the Democratic National Committee rules be changed and that a new debate take place in New Hampshire next week. We agreed pending an agreement on three future debates in March, April and May. Unfortunately, the Clinton campaign has not accepted debates we proposed on March 3 in Michigan and April 14 in New York. They apparently agreed to May 24 in California. The Clinton campaign, after not accepting Michigan, now says they want it. We are pleased to do it on March 3 before the Michigan primary provided the Clinton campaign will agree to Brooklyn, New York, on April 14. Why won’t they debate in Brooklyn? What’s the matter with Brooklyn?”

"BURLINGTON, Vt. – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Sunday challenged Hillary Clinton to debate him in New York before the state’s April 19 primary election.

“I would hope very much that as we go into New York state, Secretary Clinton’s home state, that we will have a debate – New York City or Upstate, wherever – on the important issues facing New York and, in fact, the country,” Sanders told Chuck Todd in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Fresh off sweeping victories on Saturday in Washington, Alaska and Hawaii, Sanders was looking ahead to upcoming primaries in Wisconsin and New York.

He told The Associated Press it was “really absurd” that Clinton so far has refused to agree to a debate with him in her home state.

Jeff Weaver, Sanders’ campaign manager, wrote a letter on Sunday to Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, underscoring the senator’s call for a New York debate.

“New York will play a critical role in determining the Democratic nominee. However, your campaign has consistently chosen to deny the people of New York the opportunity to see Senator Sanders and Secretary Clinton debate in the Empire State,” Weaver wrote to Mook............"
