According to USA Today, Charles Evers is a longtime Republican. He became a Republican in 1980 and endorsed Ronald Reagan. Considering the campaign Ronald Reagan ran in 1980 it should not be surprising that Evers endorsed Donald Trump. It could be argued that Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign had far more racially charged language toward black people than Donald Trump's current campaign.
