I realized at about 70 that if I were in an accident - automotive or otherwise- that a newspaper article would describe me as "elderly".

I also think about how I perceived my grandparents and their generation when I was a young adult - 20ish. - To me they were old, though still functional, etc.

On the other hand, many, if not most, at 70 can handle their lives well.
70 is certainly better than 80, for sure.
At 70, and throughout the 70's, one can still look forward to many good times and good days.
