I read the thread you provided a link too and IMHO, all the comments were very mild. If there was any hidden posts, then I would say that your claim that you were slammed was justified.
One thing I learned long time ago was that if one were to express an opinion on any subject, fried chicken for example, in an online forum, then blowback is to be expected.
