(145,264 posts)I have met Beto at both the National Convention and at a meet and greet this weekend. Beto is the one who is telling everyone to call him Beto. Beto is running on a platform designed to be as impractical as possible including making single payer a major issue when most people are worried about keeping the ACA in place. Beto is also going to refuse PAC money and so it will be interesting to see if he can raise sufficient funds to be competitive.
I met the Democrat who lost in 2012 to Carnival Cruz. Paul Sadler is a nice man but raised no money in 2012 and so lost by a ton. You need to be able fund raise to compete in a state like Texas. You could not even get yards signs for Sadler in 2012. Beto is not going to take pac money and will be going into the general election with one hand tie behind his back.
I have met Joaquin Castro several times and we will see if he runs.
