You don't need to understand ALL Trump voters, you need to understand some of them. Because SOME of them used to be Obama voters.
It's easy to say they're all racist, sexist, mysoginistic bigots. Because then we don't have to identify our own flaws. The ones that lost us MI, PA, OH and WI.
Some people voted for Trump because they were frustrated by their economic situation and didn't see "establishment" politicians of either Party addressing THEIR problems. So they went with a desperation choice. THEY can and MUST be brought back to the Democratic side. And venting at them won't help.
