But there seems to be some mixup, perhaps on both sides, but we can't know or judge without more information.

Ideally, prenups would be discussed before dates are set and deposits paid.

Perhaps they were, and the groom presented (and insisted on) a clause that had not been discussed and was unacceptable.

Perhaps they were not discussed before, and the agreement was unacceptable.
