(7,875 posts)20. In the last few years I've come to believe that Jimmy Carter was an underrated president.
At worst he was ahead of his time on many things. Almost all of his 'failures' as president were the result of Republican obstructionism and sabotage, (Yes, they were doing it even then- they were just less shameless about it.) and were amplified by the two-decade right wing smear campaign that followed.
I'm not optimistic that at his age Jimmy's going to pull through, but I take comfort in the knowledge that at least he will have lived long enough to see people waking up to the truth about him and not just accepting the Republican bullshit.
