(22,000 posts)100. I think most of us realize it is a small number of people who hold on to the
bigoted attitudes and backwards ways of what the South used to be.
I know two people from the South, both good people. In fact one of them is a professor who specializes in studying hate groups (he was my professor as an undergraduate). I've never asked him why he chose to study that, but I can guess that has something to do with where he grew up. So you could say something very positive came out of his experience and he works with law enforcement from time to time as well.
