(11,833 posts)Gore ran from Clinton's strong economic record. He also picked the detestable 'republican lite' phlegmatic snooze-fest, Lieberman. Do you remember in the debate that was open to the public, someone asked both candidates whether they believe in abortion? Gore gave a long-winded reply that was very nuanced and difficult to understand. Bush asked the person to ask the question again and she did. Bush said 'No.' I felt Gore lost the election at that moment.
I totally agree with you. I don't know who the fuck advises these democratic candidates to run away from the previous democrats' strong record. Fuck that. Run on President Obama's great successes (starting with providing affordable health care for millions who previously were out of luck if they had a catastrophic illness) and go further. Say we must expand on those gains. Improve it to lower the costs of health care.
I think and hope that Hillary's team and every damn democrat running for every office finally gets this message through their thick skulls. Go positive. Go more left in policy. Say President Obama helped stabilize the economy. Saved the auto industry. Ended two wars. Now we must continue and benefit from a peacetime economy, like we did in the Bill Clinton era and the Eisenhower era. Raise the minimum wage! Reduce military hardware spending! Now we must really strengthen the economy for the 99%! Offer concrete proposals! Pick a vice-presidential candidate who is younger and more liberal! People will vote for it! They will fall asleep on election day if it's just more of the same DC insider rhetoric of platitudes with no concrete progressive proposals that will be enacted on day one of the Presidency, and fought for with Congress throughout the President's first term.
Thanks Calimary. You read my friggin' mind.
