In reply to the discussion: Robert Parry is a liar when it comes to Ukraine. [View all]JonLP24
(29,322 posts)94. I think there was a Nuland tape
There are actually a lot of recording tapes so I'm not sure how much authenticity is involved but I believe the US officially didn't deny it but didn't really confirm it which gave some credibility to me that it might be real. She was also the one pushing hard on the "Russian propaganda" rhetoric but in any case, the reason given as to why RT has a "tiny audience" doesn't explain why Fox has the highest ratings for a 24/7 news channel.
I wouldn't say it was US involved coup but it certainly was wealthy interests but I think they're using Ukraine. Its economy is in shambles so enter the IMF extortion scheme. Basically cutting off trade talks with Russia into joining the West isn't smart since much of their economy depends on Russian imports. Hell, the "oil sanctions" probably hurts them more but this push to go against Russia, even a continuing of a "cheap gas" deal.
Yulia Tymoshenko, the "oil princess", that is one wealthy Ukranian obligarch with ties with top US leaders and was a leader of the Fatherland Party. A major part of the "Euromaiden" movement.
As the core party of the former Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, Batkivshchyna has had representation in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament) since Yulia Tymoshenko set up the parliamentary faction Batkivshchyna in March 1999.[16][17][18] Since 2008 "Batkivshchyna" is an associate member of European People's Party.[19] After the November 2011 banning of the participation of blocs of political parties in parliamentary elections[20] "Fatherland" became a major force in Ukrainian politics independently.[21] In the 2012 parliamentary elections the party also added the name "United Opposition" to its name, and aligned several other parties under its banner; it won 101 parliamentary seats in the election.[21][22][23] In June 2013 several of those aligned parties merged with Batkivshchyna.[24] It was also a leading party in the country's Yatsenyuk Government.[25] On 31 December 2013, the party's parliamentary faction was 90 votes strong.[14] Following the February 2014 Euromaidan revolution the party became a leading party in the country's first Yatsenyuk Government.[25] The party split itself when on 10 September 2014 party leaders Yatsenyuk and Turchynov became founding member the new party People's Front.[26] In the late October 2014 Ukrainian parliamentary election The party won 19 seats; barely passing the 5% election threshold with 5.68% of the votes.[27][28] (People's Front won 82 seats in this election.[28]) The party is currently a member of the coalition supporting the current second Yatsenyuk Government and has 2 ministers in this government.[29] The party enjoys support mainly in Western Ukraine (especially in the Lviv Oblast where the vast majority of members live) and Central Ukraine.[14]
Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison in October 2011 on abuse of power charges; the prosecution and conviction were viewed by many countries most prominently the European Union, who repeatedly called for release of Tymoshenko as the primary condition for signing the EU Association Agreement, and USA and international organizations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International as politically biased.[30][31][32][33][34][35] Tymoshenko was release during the Euromaidan revolution and officially rehabilitated late February 2014.[36][37][38][39][40]

That is one. Not so much the US but a wealthy elite (which is a major part of US foreign policy, if there is a corrupt government that the US is getting rich in partnership with you certainly notice a difference in rhetoric for those who are no help or those in talks to nationalize certain industries. US has often been on friendly terms with the capitalist dictator (in fact, one of the bonds US & Saudi had was their share hatred of Communism) but the more populist guy throws him out he is suddenly on one of the worst dictators list. Chavez was Baynesian, ran a mixed economy so he wasn't a pure socialist.

He continues to label what happened last year a "coup" when there was no coup.

It wasn't a 'coup'; it was a 'putsch,' spearheaded by the shock troops of

A putsch is a type of coup. Specifically, one that uses violence in its execution.

All definitive signs indicate it was shot down by a SAM and Parry's claims are bullocks.

Interesting. How come there is no final conclusion forthcoming from all the investigations?

I'm implying that for whatever reason, pro-Ukrainian protesters were shot at. That's undeniable.
