In reply to the discussion: Who here has had the flu this season? [View all]Hari Seldon
(154 posts)28. "The Flu" - which "Flu?"
The three or so flues that the virus protects against?
or any one of a number of minor maladies that seem to exist in the body, but only occasionally break out in symptoms?
I've had a minor flu, I think.
I don't comport with the 47% effective flu vaccines.

How effective was the 2011-2012 seasonal flu vaccine?
Final vaccine effectiveness (VE) estimates for the 2011-2012 influenza season found that influenza vaccine was 47% (95% CI, 36% to 56%) effective at preventing medically-attended acute respiratory illnesses caused by circulating influenza A and B viruses in people of all ages. This estimate is adjusted for age, sex, race/ethnicity, study site, illness onset date, calendar date, assessments of self-rated health and pre-existing medical conditions. These results show moderate effectiveness against circulating influenza viruses, and are similar to the preliminary VE estimate reported earlier in the 2011-2012 season
THATS RIGHT! 47% EFFECTIVE!
That means your vaccine is a PLACEBO!!!

Use hand wipes on your desk phone's receiver if other people are likely to have been using it, too.

Even if you do catch the mutated strain your simptoms should be more tolerable

Why NOT get the flu shot if you don't have any specific health problem with the vaccine?
