(8,283 posts)I am moving to Europe next week and have already used the services there last month when I had a tooth/gum abscess. I will be living in Switzerland and went to the University hospital with this abscess and got treated right away even though it was dental related. They took xrays and treated the abscess with antibiotics by lancing it (locally only, not pill form) and repeated the visits for a week, nearly every day, until it was healed. Total cost was 400 swiss francs. The xray was 150 so 5 visits to the dentist was less than 250 bucks with medicine for rinsing the gums. That is outstanding service for the costs.
My brother was in the Cleveland Clinic (heart specialty hospital in Ohio) this past week with his heart disease. He had his first heart attack around 37. He has had 5 stints put in his heart and 3 of them had calcified and were blocked. He had them reopened this week and although the surgery was supposed to last 3 hrs, it took 8 to finish. He has excellent health care insurance and since he's been with the company over 30 yrs (rare these days), he won't have to pay more than his deductible which I am not sure what it is. When you work for a company as long as 30 yrs, you finally get the health care you deserve here. Which is exactly how you describe it in your original post. Health care should not be for profit and my spouse and I feel the same as you do about it.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you will surely be enjoyed by your family. Peace.
