I was recently on a right wing web site where they claimed Republican votes were being recorded for the Democrat and they had it on video. The Democrat was listed above the Republican in this example. The person had their finger bowed so that the finger nail would be what struck the screen. In this case the nail did not strike inside the box for the Democrat but it struck just above the line separating the two candidates names so the nail struck closer to the Democrat box than the Republican box so it recorded for the Democrat. I thought from the strike it should not have registered for either candidate but it instead registered for the closest candidate, which was the Democrat. Indeed, the first time I saw it I thought since no part of the finger was inside the box for the Democrat it was improper then when I saw the angle of the strike I tried it on my computer screen and sure enough the nail is what touched the screen rather than the tip of the finger as you might think.
Had this person not curved his finger to where the nail struck first it likely would have registered for the Republican -- hence why I called it an operator error where the fix is training on proper procedures for casting a vote using touch screens.
Not saying that is the case here but it is a possibility, especially since it finally did record the vote properly.
