(59,503 posts)I can't dispute your (almost certainly) made up estimate. I really do not think it a major problem - after all if you had already looked at the thread and found it boring, why would you click on it again rather than the many alternative threads?
I think part of the problem is that in DU2, GDP acted as a place, not just for the primaries, the election, or the President, but as a general forum used for a self selected part of DU users. Where I would guess that Obama was the most popular politician on GDP, on GD, the most popular person would have been Kuchinich, Nader, Grayson etc. Politics2014 is not the real equivalent as it really IS more about the upcoming elections (including 2016.).
In DU2, many of us seeing the different population of posters on both forums, intentionally used GDP for any post we wanted to make, I know I did and once tested posting the same thing on both about a SFRC hearing. Neither post was extremely active - not surprisingly as it was not political, but on GDP, there was a discussion of the article, on GD there were simply a few knee jerk attacks before it sunk. I think DU3, intentionally wanted to combine the 2 groups of posters. I don't know if that is the cause, but it does seem that many people who preferred GDP have left, leaving a more to the left board.
