(19,497 posts)If Clinton is the nominee, OK; but if not then those who speak of her inevitability have done the Democratic party a disservice. And that's not just about Hillary. ANY candidate who has such an air of inevitability, if they fail to secure the nomination, will hurt the party as the opposition gets to mock the "back-benchers" who ended-up prevailing.
In that same vein, those who oppose The Inevitable One (and, again, my comments are not about Hillary specifically but strategy in general) may damage that candidate if they move on to the general. The opposition will seize on every contentious word and replay it again and again and again.
I believe the true way forward is a spirited but civil debate. That alone demonstrates a good case for being entrusted with the keys to government. We should govern ourselves with the same spirit of community and respect we would want to see in society as a whole.
