(5,477 posts)This is a fairly new thing. I have always considered myself a feminist, and have always spoken out for equality. No one in real life has ever had any issue with my treatment of women or my views on gender.
But apparently it has become offensive to consider men as womens' equals. Women here have increasingly been making broad brush statements about men that juries repeatedly allow to stand even though similar treatment of women would not be tolerated for a moment.
I hate it. I prefer feeling like we're all on the same team. But a small group of very outspoken female supremacists here has been doing all they can to make DU an unwelcoming place for any man who doesn't simply defer to them on issues of gender and sexuality.
Sorry...the answer to misogyny is not treating men as poorly as you are able. The answer is bringing us along to your way of thinking. This is possible if you let your resentment go for long enough to remember that we are individuals, too, with our own personal beliefs that aren't part of some monolithic male mindset.
But it's much easier to be super lazy and just treat us all like we're the problem. Who cares about being constructive anyway?
