5. I went shopping on the 4th of July

And it was a madhouse...people with carts full of hot dogs, soda and other picnic fare. One group of men were speaking spanish to each other, and looked like they were probably migrant workers (I am in the construction industry and deal with them often). Their cart was like the others....all the picnic fare, and even some red white and blue napkins.

It made me strangely happy. They were 'participating' in our holiday...didn't see anything wrong with it - they probably are very happy being in this country, since they've found opportunity here. Why not celebrate with the rest of us...mostly descendents of immigrants.

The American dream should be open to all takers.
