Trump comes out of the trial downsized, with R-Senators either voting to cut the cord, ripping him as McConnell did or distancing themselves from him. The fact that only seven of 50 voted against him shows they fear losing his voters more than aggravating him personally.

The good political news from our POV is their votes mean we still get to hang Trump around their necks. This as Trump continues to die a slow legal and PR death through investigations, trials and disclosures that are still to come.

The GOP have miscalculated. We gave them a get out of jail free card and they said meh, we’d rather have it both ways. It shouldn’t be hard for Democrats to deny them the pleasure.
