Chapter 5 of the Tao Te Ching begins with the lines "Heaven and Earth are heartless / treating creatures like straw dogs".

Or in another version, translations vary:

"Heaven and earth are ruthless, and treat the myriad creatures as straw dogs; the sage is ruthless, and treats the people as straw dogs.[3]

Su Ch'e commentary on this verse explains: "Heaven and Earth are not partial. They do not kill living things out of cruelty or give them birth out of kindness.

We do the same when we make straw dogs to use in sacrifices. We dress them up and put them on the altar, but not because we love them.

And when the ceremony is over, we throw them into the street, but not because we hate them."[1]

This to me is the story of Assange and Snowden, and whoever else will be waved in front of our noses to be adored for a while, then out of sight and forgotten. There is a purpose behind this, not about protecting anyone's rights but those of the billionaires.



The US Government is not taking away my rights but the Koch brothers, ALEC and boat load of theocrats and corporatists are. But women in the United States are losing their privacy rights and basic liberties right now.

But it doesn't mean a flying fuck to these guys. We must be living in Animal Farm. All animals are created equal. But some are more equal than others. Assange and Snowden's rights and the alleged danger to them are with the pigs who run the farm. Meanwhile, real despair is being felt by the rest of us.

This whole charade is a mockery of rights by those who have never faced what women, minorities, gays and the poor suffer. Those on the media bandwagon with them are grifters and narcissists. The fact tthey are playing footsie with the same groups committing in your face theft of rights to so many, is just sickening.

Yes, I can chew gum and walk down the street at the same time. This is not worth my time, saving the rights of people that can literally change things instead of being entertainment fodder to keep people going in circles, and off what's happening to us, are a proper use of passion, energy and focus.

The Snowden road show is just another long-running, crooked circus. He's either a fool or an operative for the Kochtopus. It will end when it's decided by those who set it up that it's not longer a good investment.
