It was the first number I ever memorized as a kid (only 3 numbers to remember) and I thought of 666 as a phone number long before I knew of the other meaning.

IDK about a 666 area code, but once worked in the 666 exchange. That was in more enlightened times.

Actually, they do matter. If you only dial 7 digits it's assumed the area code is your own.
