In reply to the discussion: Am I the only one who wasn't impressed with Best Actress? [View all]Bobstandard
(1,334 posts)46. I beg to differ with the OP
Poor Things was exceptional for its production design, cinematography, and score. It resembled no other film of the season, while many of the Oscar nominated films resembled each other. There were many fine performances in the Best Actress category, but each of them portrayed individuals with normal human character development in films with well traveled story arcs. Emma Stone, by contrast, portrayed a fantastical individual whos development is the reverse of that of a normal human. Her developing human emotions, language, and even movement skills were unique to character and skillfully, even joyfully portrayed by the actress in the role. I think that she is eminently deserving of the Oscar.

I have seen some assessments that equate her portrayal with that of a disabled person.

I didn't see Emma Stone's movie, but I have to admit being disappointed that Gladstone lost..

It was just far too long for that kind of story - 3 hours and 26 minutes - that's like "Ben-Hur" length for a far less

I don't understand why people post just to say they don't care about the topic of the thread.

The point is that it's not much to worry about. The decisions were almost entirely insignifant to what's happening

Me either. Attention seeking behavior, repping the misunderstood contrarian?

I disagree, Lily was very good but her roll didn't require as much as Emma Stone's roll.

The movie was great. Emma stone was great. Mark Ruffalo was great. Willem Defoe was great

Is that because you felt like the movies were too white this year or was it the subject matter?
